How to set yourself goals
• Start small at first and keep them realistic
• Try writing down your goals for the next month
• Type them up or write them neatly and display somewhere prominent
• Tick them off when you achieve them
• Treat yourself to something as a reward
• Don’t be too hard on yourself if things don’t work out as expected - you are allowed to change your goals
So far this year I have joined a writer’s motivation group. During January I intended to write an article a day. This was a bit over optimistic, but I did complete half that amount and have sold about a third of them. For February, I decided to write two chapters of my crime fiction novel. As I write this we are halfway through February and I have written one chapter so far. I think goal setting works really well for me, as if I hadn’t set those goals I would not have achieved so much. If goal setting works for me, then there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work for you!
